Fuelled by Curiosity,
Grounded in Action
Welcome to my corner of the internet
I’m John Pumphrey, DSocSci - an action researcher and scholar-practitioner, drawing on four decades inside large, hierarchical organisations.
This space is primarily a [blog] fuelled by caffeine and curiosity that blends personal reflection and scholarly insights. My interest revolves around a single question that ran through both my doctoral work and most of my career: how do complex organisations make sense of risk, make decisions, and why do their efforts to get better at it often prove difficult? I’ll be writing around themes related to decision-making, action research, and occasionally explore how quantitative tools / statistical analysis can assist leaders in their decisions. I aim to continue my journey from the completion of my [doctoral dissertation] published in 2025, but I’m certain that both my thinking and interests will evolve.
Grab a cup of coffee and join me in this sharing of ideas.
